Client:

British Land, Meadowhall, Sheffield

Date of work:

2016

Brief:

In 2016, British Land announced plans for a new 330,000 sq ft Leisure Hall to add to Meadowhall in Sheffield. Lexington was appointed to undertake a pre-application public consultation programme on the proposals, provide public affairs support and assist in local media relations regarding the proposals.

Lexcomm’s approach:

Lexington devised, coordinated and managed a comprehensive two-stage public consultation process to capture feedback on the initial proposals and ‘report back’ on the updated scheme before submission. This included a high quality public exhibition, designed to capture large amounts of public support for the proposals, a dedicated project website and targeted meetings with key decision makers and influential third party groups.

Outcome:

Over 1,400 people have so far participated in the consultation, with 94% of the feedback received being supportive of the proposals.  Local and regional press coverage of The Leisure Hall proposals has been positive, with media highlighting the economic benefits of the proposals as part of a more prosperous Sheffield City Region.

A planning application for the development will be submitted later this year.
