Client Name:

Maggie’s

Date of work:

2014

Brief/Issue:

Maggie’s offers free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their families and friends. The charity was seeking planning consent for a centre at Barts Hospital, in the historic City of London, but had received objections and media coverage about the impact on a neighbouring Grade 1 listed building.

Lexcomm Approach:

Lexington helped Maggie’s create a series of simple communications and briefing materials that explained the case for the proposals and identified who would be interested. We also assisted in drafting materials for the media and presentations to the City’s Planning and Transportation Committee. This demonstrated sensitivities in Maggie’s design approach, and evidenced widespread support from stakeholders in the business community.

Outcomes:

Maggie’s secured planning consent by a margin of one vote. The new centre is currently being built and will open in 2017.
