Client:

Team Margot

Date of work:

2016

Brief:

Team Margot is a new charity which campaigns for donors to join the stem cell and bone marrow registers, particularly those of mixed ethnicity. Team Margot set Lexington the challenge of raising their public profile amongst Westminster, Whitehall and media audiences.

Lexcomm’s approach:

Lexington produced a political engagement strategy where Team Margot met with a number of influential backbench MPs, relevant All Party Parliamentary Committee chairs and Whitehall officials, with Lexington providing tailored briefing prior to each meeting. A number of these MPs committed to raising the awareness of Team Margot’s cause within Westminster, tabling relevant parliamentary questions and writing to Ministers on the charity’s behalf to highlight the importance of the campaign. To increase awareness of the campaign Lexington drafted press materials and advised Team Margot to create a photo opportunity for MPs so they could use this on social media and in their local press.

Outcome:

The success of this engagement culminated in Team Margot hosting a parliamentary reception which was attended by over 30 MPs and celebrity supporters. The event was hosted by Co-Chair of the Stem Cell Transplantation APPG, Mark Tami MP and included a key note speech from Public Health Minister, Jane Ellison MP who endorsed Team Margot’s campaign for more donors to join the stem cell and bone marrow register. As a result Team Margot has strengthened its relationships with parliamentary supporters and is now starting to engage with departmental officials across Whitehall on what further changes can be made to drive up donor registration.
