Holocaust Memorial Day Trust
Challenge:
Use Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) 2020 to educate a broad UK audience about the Holocaust and create a safer future.
As the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, HMD 2020 was one of the last opportunities for many Holocaust survivors to tell their stories first hand. In such a pivotal year, activity needed to be creative with a modern-day relevance in order for HMDT to cut above the noise of other organisations and reach a wider audience.
We devised and promoted a creative media programme to capture the attention of a broad UK audience and deliver a critical public message on the importance of standing together against hate.
We developed a media plan around promoting activities to highlight the ‘Stand Together’ theme for the 2020 commemorations;
Secured media interviews and op-eds across the full mix of media channels for HMDT spokespeople and survivors;
Facilitated an open letter from Holocaust and more recent genocide survivors in the UK about the importance of standing up to hate;
Enlisted influencers to promote a digital commemoration campaign to engage the public;
Worked with Kensington Palace to promote a photography project involving the Duchess of Cambridge to commemorate the anniversary;
Advised on engagement with Parliamentarians to put the issue on the political agenda;
Managed the media operation for the UK national commemorative ceremony attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Prime Minister and other public figures.
We captured widespread UK and international coverage of HMD and the anniversary across the full mix of channels using the stories of survivors to highlight the consequences of hate and extremism if left unchecked to a broad audience.
